This is “Ruth”. A 3” scale model of a quarry Hunslet to the Elidir design published by Reeves. Ruth was built by the late Peter Fells and was completed in 1998. Since that time Ruth has been a regular performer at Sheffield Model Engineers’ Society track at Abbeydale in Sheffield. Ruth came into my possession after Peter’s untimely death in 2005. In 2006, after experiencing some problems with the valve gear, I made new expansion links and die blocks and reset all the valve timing. This involved removing the boiler and smokebox from the frames and the opportunity was taken to thoroughly clean and overhaul the loco and apply a fresh coat of paint. Since then, a new vaccum ejector has been fitted and the tender/driving trolley has been fitted with vacuum brakes. |
